If you had asked me a year ago if I (AUST) would ever expect that a child would be born at our home, I would have said NO!
And yet this week we introduced you to our Baby Girl and mentioned she was born at HOME!

Why didn’t I expect a home birth? It’s not that all our babies were born in a hospital…
Our first 2 Children were born at a Birth Center with a Midwife attending the birth.
Our 3rd child had an amazing birth story which we shared in our Podcast this week, spoiler alert, she was born in the back of our mini van!
Having a kid in the back of a mini van is a life changing experience.
You realize that things don’t always go according to plan, sometimes the very unexpected happens, and the big lesson from that experience in my life SHOULD have been BE PREPARED, the unexpected happens.
I didn’t learn that lesson right away though. Instead, the mini van birth kinda caused me to be more afraid of the unexpected, and just try harder to avoid the unexpected from happening.
For example… our 4th birth, to make sure we didn’t have a baby in the van again (like I could control this?) I printed out signs to tape to our van that said “Having a Baby Please Move” so we wouldn’t be stuck in traffic and have another van baby.
Again… I had not learned the right lesson, Just BE PREPARED.
Life seems to circle back to lessons not yet learned, and with baby number 6 a lot of unexpected twists and turns happened along the way that led to us having our baby on our living room floor. Fortunately, someone had learned the right lesson way back at van baby. K.
K prepared in so many ways for a healthy safe birth of our baby, no matter where it took place, and this last baby’s birth, on our living room floor, was an amazing experience. If you want to hear the whole story, watch our video podcasts or listen to the audio version!

If you are expecting in the future… Let me just say I have done a 180 on the Home Birth experience.
We LOVED having our baby home, cuddled in mommy’s arms snuggled by the fire just moments after birth.
It was an incredible experience, and if it is something you have thought about trying perhaps look into it a little more!
Although not an option for everyone, it might be perfect for you!
And I promise it will be nicer than having a baby in the back of a van…

Love this video — watched it once by myself a while ago, then again just now and will watch later with my husband later. Have you shared anywhere what other types of things you had in the binder for Aust? I’d love to create something like that as well.
Thank you and CHEERS, H

Hey Heather, we have not shared anything else about the binder, and I’m afraid as time has passed we couldn’t tell you what was in it! Best on your own plans!
