The LONG AWAITED time is finally here! We are breeding our cow Ladybug!
More on that in a minute…
The week started with an exciting package I got in the mail.
I have been using game cameras for years to keep track of wildlife on my own property, pattern their movements, and for security on my own homestead from both other people and predators.
Game cameras have a motion sensor that triggers when there is movement in front of the camera. They are a great multi purpose tool for homesteaders!
If you are wondering about when deer are moving through your property, so you can be out there hunting when they are there, well game cameras can help!
Want to know what predator is trying to kill your chickens? They work for that too.
MOULTRIE was kind enough to send me 4 cameras. You can learn about them in that video and checkout them for yourself HERE…
Sad to think about, but soon the grass will stop growing, and it will be time to feed the cows hay. So we went Hay shopping… after a quick stop at the vets…
Things can happen when you are least expecting them to on the homestead. It was a normal calm evening when K went out to check on the cows…
But what she found when she stepped into the pasture was super exciting…
Thinking our cow was getting ready to be bred, we decided to get our Artificial Insemination Tech over the following morning to breed Ladybug.
He showed up and before we knew it the breeding was complete.
NOW the long wait begins… 29 days till her next cycle. Will she show signs of coming back into heat? Or will the breeding take and then we can start the long march toward our first calving on this new homestead?
Unfortunately you will have to wait along with us to find out.
But you know what they say. Good things come to those who wait.
Finally, don’t miss our Q and A of the week, where we answer your questions about Homesteading… Including how do we pay for our homestead?
Enjoy your weekend on your homestead!
Happy Farm Friday
