After leasing the buck Quinn for the last few months to have our does bred it was finally time to bring Quinn home.
Back in December we picked Quinn up, and for those of you who remember watching that video, it was NOT a nice road trip –
A buck during mating season is a very stinky animal, and to have that animal stuff inside a van with you is NOT fun.
So instead of making the same mistake twice, we decided to make a DIY Livestock trailer to take him home in.
With the trailer all ready to go, we decided I (Aust) would take a trip back to CT to bring our leased buck home, (and also do a video shoot for a client of mine) while the Kids and K would stay home and take care of the farm without me.
We were NOT looking forward to being apart so long. I have never taken a trip away from my wife and kids.
But Quinn needed to go home, so off I went.
All and all the drive down with the livestock trailer went very smooth. Our little vent system that we built into the trailer helped us keep the temperature just right as we were driving. When it got hot out I opened the vent, and when it was cold I closed it.
I monitored the temps the whole time and Quinn stayed at a comfortable 55-60 degrees the whole time.
Meanwhile back at the farm, K and the kids had to do some barn chores. Cleaning the pens up after the buck had left was the first job, but was far from the last.
As we mentioned in a video last week, we got the keys to the big house we are moving into, and so there was work to be done there too as well to prepare for our big move.
It was a tiring week, but the kids and K did great! And now were all back together on the homestead, less one stinky buck.
