This week we had a special visitor, whom many of you guessed correctly…
Special because we love this guy… but also because he was our FIRST VISITOR to our new homestead.
And also a special visitor because he helped us build a BEAUTIFUL new milking stanchion for our cows.
If you are planning on owning (or already do own a) family milk cow, you will need a stanchion.
Ay our old homestead I was able to build a stanchion into the already exsisting barn, but at our new homestead I had to build a stand alone stanchion. Since I figured alot of you would need to do the same thing, I decided to make a video documenting how to build this stanchion.
We did a 2 part series…
We also made an extended version of this build for those of you who are going to build it but need a bit more help with the build process.
That extended version and a complete lumber list and cut sheet can be found HERE in the pioneer library for Homesteady Pioneers. If you want access to all our bonus/extended content, classes, and pioneer discounts available in the pioneer library, become one HERE.
We also have a Pioneer’s Only forum, where there is an awesome thread going on right now all about where to start on your new homestead. Sometimes, when we finally arrive to our dream farms, we have no idea where to start. Some seasoned veterans give some great advice on where to start on your new farm.
Homesteady Pioneer Karin shared some fantastic advice on this thread
“It’s so easy to spend a lot of money on the first go-round when the Excitation-Novelty Syndrome (I made that up, btw, but it’s true) for you is in high gear. And it’s easy in the first few years to make some costly mistakes too. AND, get quite overwhelmed with all the things you feel you have to do…
I also love, love, love this particular piece of advice:
Learn from the mistakes of others because you won’t live long enough to make them all yourself.”
Thanks Karin, loved that advice about ENS 😉 . One of the biggest reasons we do a daily video on our channel is to share our mistakes so you don’t have to make them!
We talk alot about mistakes and lessons we have learned about homesteading in our weekly QnA sessions.
This week we covered some awesome questions… including “Should You homestead if you are single?” and “Can you homestead with no outside income?”
Homesteading is a lot of work and if we can help you avoid mistakes we are happy to do it!
Finally this week we brought a new exiting animal to the farm. See her here…
I hope you enjoy your weekend on your homestead.
I have to mow our field in the tractor. Let’s hope for some sun!
Happy Farm Friday,
Aust
