We had a SCARY CLOSE CALL this week with our puppy! More on that in a bit….
The week started off with our very first Milking in PA!
We have become a Family Cow First Homestead…
That is our primary production on this homestead is our cows, both milk and calves. And for 2 months we were not “producing” our main “export”
It felt great to finally fill up a few ball jars full of farm fresh raw milk! MMM!
We did not try to milk Ladybug when we first moved here, because we did not have a stanchion.
Milking (even a great cow like Ladybug) without a stanchion is a challenge. And to be honest, with so much to do with moving and settling in, K didn’t mind the break.
But now we are settled in enough, and have a beautiful stanchion, and milking has begun again!
Don’t forget, if you want to build yourself a Milking Stanchion, there is an extended version of that video, lumber list, and cut sheet for Homesteady Pioneers HERE.
For any who want access to that extended video, and our entire library of Homesteading video courses, bonus podcasts, homesteading product discounts, and Members Only Forum, you can become a Pioneer Here for just $5 a month!
If you have any questions about cows, milking, or our setup, checkout todays #askhomesteady video! We did a special “ASK THE COWGIRL” Edition, where K talked all about milking (and I sat next to her an made jokes).
The next morning we went out to milk the cows and were greeted by such a pleasant surprise!
Homesteading has it’s ups and downs for sure, but those mornings you walk out to the barn to find long anticipated babies, well those are like the all time peaks!
And let’s be honest… Of all the cute little babies you can find in the barn, ducklings are probably at the top.
But not all of homesteading is so cute…
Last week in a video I was throwing away some scrap lumber… and LOT’S of our fans thought that was a big mistake…
So we decided to talk about Homesteading vs HOARD-steading, and how we try to be balanced in what we keep and what we pitch on the homestead.
In that video one of us confesses to be a bit of a HOARDER… Can you guess which one of us it is? Watch the video and find out!
Finally, we had a bit of a scary close call this week.
K and I had plans to go with the family to Pittsburg for the day. Our little new addition to the family,
Poppy the Puppy
has had some stomach issues. So we put her in the barn for the day.
I also wound up having some stomach issues so I decided to stay home with the pups.
Then we had a FLASH FLOOD! Find out what happened in this video…
We are all ok, thankfully!
And we are looking forward to the weekend, as we have some more friends visiting our Homestead!
I hope you enjoy your weekend on your homestead,
Happy Farm Friday!
