This was so great and made the idea process more simple. Somewhat common sense but it’s amazing how lost we can get in our ideas. The problem is the amount of different things we all love and could do and create videos about. Thank you for creating this. It was super helpful in defining ideas.
Hey Aust,
My husband and I have only been Homesteading for a year or so and we moved to a new property recently. No systems are in place. All we had was some old fencing. We didn’t even have any out buildings. So we aren’t passionate about any particular animal yet…we are just in the process of setting up our future lives. We want to try out a lot of different animals. The only thing we have experience with is cows.
I’m not particularly passionate about them, but should I just focus in on them for now? Would doing all of the building projects (outbuildings, gardens, fencing, etc) be niche enough? Like telling our story of setting up our homestead? And all the problems we run into? Or is that too wide of a category.
If this is more of a long answer consultation sort of question, then no worries. I don’t want to take too much of your time.
Hi Mary!
People really enjoy following along in homestead build from scratch projects! There is for sure a big audience for that!
The only issue there is itβsa crowded space. Focus on how you can stand out. That can be location, style of Build, editing or video quality, your unique struggles, and more! Go for it, and focus on standing out in a unique way! π
I have paid literal thousands for coaching and this is quite honestly the best digital business advice I have gotten to date!! Thank you so much for this simple and straight forward lesson! I look forward to watching the rest!
Hi Aust,
Thank you for this video, and I am excited for our coaching call on Wednesday.
I reckon I’m going to have to do some noodling on what my ultimate passion is to focus on in homesteading. I love all of it: the tools, the equipment, the building projects, the work, the animals, growing food, and I reckon I’ve been a little scattershot in my channel so far. We’re just about two years into our homesteading journey, and while we’ve done a lot there is a lot left to do. Going to need to hear your thoughts on what is a good niche to hone in on might be.
I think goals are simpler for me. My original goal was get 1 check from YouTube and then evaluate from there. I have yet to accomplish that goal, but I am dangerously close and know I’m not going to stop. The ultimate goal would be to build a channel which becomes the primary farm enterprise allowing me to be a full-time farmer. My process goal for the year is publish 24 longform videos I am proud of. I’ve gotten 3 out so far (the three best pieces of content I’ve ever made), and the 4th will be the challenge video you sent out in the email blast, so I’m right on track.

Yay! So glad to hear it helped! Yeah, I get lost in my ideas too π good to have someone tell you to focus sometimes
I was about to email you, and then I ended up on a tangent about the channel so I think I might have a little more working out to do or a lot.
