Hunting is a lesson in perseverance. The day you don’t feel like going, the hour you feel like quitting, that’s when something’s going to happen. You just need to push yourself, so you will be there when it happens.
It was a cold Saturday morning, the weather forecast was calling for 12-15 inches of snow.
Now, I plow snow. So a forecast of 15 inches meant I would be spending the whole night plowing. Sleep was becoming an important issue. I would have really liked to get (and in retrospect could definitely have used) more sleep before the storm.
However, I knew the oncoming cold front would put bucks on there feet. I decided to hunt.
As 6 became 7, then 7 became 8, the woods remained quiet. I thought about quitting. I could go back inside, get cozy on the couch, rest up a bit before the big storm. Dreaming of hot cocoa… It was very tempting.
Hunting is a lesson in perseverance. That hour you feel like quitting, don’t. Sit tight for 15 more minutes. That’s when the bruiser buck steps out of the brush, in front of your blind 15 yards away. Instead of hot cocoa in your hands, you will be holding your bow.
